Jay Glazer Says the Cowboys Were Never Targeting Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley

Colin Cowherd: “Is Mike McCarthy the guy the Cowboys were targeting?”
Jay Glazer: “Yes, they wanted head coaching experience. A lot of people thought they would go after a Lincoln Riley, but that wasn’t the case. They didn’t want someone with college experience, they wanted someone who was an NFL head coach.” (Full Interview Above)

Listen to notable Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer explain to Colin Cowherd how the Mike McCarthy hiring went down in Dallas, as the Cowboys somewhat surprisingly came away with the former Green Bay Packers head coach, despite a loaded field of potential candidates.

One of the most compelling head coaching candidates was Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley, who coached back-to-back Heisman winners and no. 1 overall picks in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, and also saw Jalen Hurts rise to Heisman finalist under his direction as well.

Riley is just 36-years-old and seemed like the next great offensive mind to make the jump to the NFL alla Kliff Klinsbury.

However, Jay detailed to Colin that the Cowboys were never in the market for a college head coach like Riley, and instead were only focusing on names that were already established coaches in the professional ranks.

Check out the full interview above as Jay also talks about the Giants having interest in Baylor's Matt Rhule.
