University of Louisville Settles With Rick Pitino

(Louisville, KY) - The University of Louisville has approved a settlement deal with former head coach Rick Pitino.

In the deal approved by the U of L Athletic Association board, Pitino will be given no money but will have his personnel file changed to reflect he resigned.

Pitino had sued for the remainder of his $40 million contract, arguing he was owed it becuase the school fired him in 2017 without cause.

The deal comes after both sides spent over eight hours in federal mediation last week.

Athletic Director Vince Tyra says "it's one less thing we have to worry about" but was hesitant to say the school had "washed its hands" of Pitino, cited what he had accomplished.
