David Ortiz Released From Intensive Care Unit

Baltimore Orioles v Boston Red Sox

Former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz continues to make progress in his recovery after getting shot in the back in the Dominican Republic. His wife, Tiffany released a brief statement saying that he has been released from the intensive care unit and remains in the care of his doctors.

“David was moved out of the intensive care unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. He remains in good condition and continues to recover under the care of Drs. David King and Larry Ronan.”

Ortiz was the victim of mistaken identity when a gunman walked up behind him while he was sitting outdoors at Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo and shot him in the abdomen. Authorities in the Dominican Republic say a U.S. associate of the Gulf Cartel put out a hit on another man who was sitting at the table with Ortiz.

Officials have arrested 11 people in connection with the case. They are still looking for Victor Hugo Gomez, the man who is accused of ordering the attack.
