Louisville Football Player Undergoes Emergency Apendectomy

(LOUISVILLE, KY) - University of Louisville wide receiver Jaylen Smith underwent an emergency appendectomy Friday morning.

Head Athletic Trainer Matt Summers says Smith is doing well.

“We were fortunate to catch this early and anticipate a full recovery,” Summers said. “Jaylen is doing well and we look forward to him returning to the practice field as soon as possible.”

Smith, a junior, started 10 games for the Cards last season.  He considered leaving early for the NFL Draft, but elected to come back after missing significant time last season with a wrist injury that needed surgery in the off-season.
